Western North Carolina Social PSK31 Net

Please join us Tuesday night at 9 PM for the first “Western North Carolina Social PSK31 Net” on 10 meters – 28.120 MHz which follows our Clay County ARES Net which starts at 8 PM on Tuesday evenings on the K5PRE repeater (146.955- 100 Hz PL).

If you have any questions or need any advice on how to get started on PSK31 feel free to ask any questions.

Additionally, if you need to test or check TX/RX of your PSK31 gear I currently run an automated and remotely controlled PSK31 PropNet.org station and software on 28.119 MHz (about 1500 Hz on the waterfall). My station ID’s 6 times per hour. If you call me (KK4EKN KK4EKN DE MYCALL MYCALL K) the “robot” will call back your callsign as well as log the contact on PropNet.org (click link to see 10 meter activity)
Hope to see everyone on the waterfall and 73, de KK4EKN

Support the Amateur Radio Parity Act

I can tell you myself not being able to have an outdoor antenna has pretty much kept me from getting more involved with amateur radio. I, the guy who hosts Clayares.net, only have a technicians license and thought to myself what is really the point of getting a general when I’ve no where I can put an antenna due to the home owner’s association. HR 1301 aims to lift the restrictions on antenna use on private land (that means your home owner’s association). It is very clear that amateur radio is not just a hobby but a valuable resource during emergencies. Personally I feel these restrictions are another good reason people choose not to take up the hobby and practice of amateur radio.

Click the link to write to your state’s senator. When you go to the page you’ll be asked to enter your ZIP code. Fill out the form and the ARRL will send the letter on your behalf.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Warrior’s Veterans Outreach of Cherokee County, a recently formed support group for US Military Veterans, is holding a 22 mile walk/march from Andrews to Murphy and beyond to Ranger on Saturday, May 28th, 2016. This group has requested that we provide communications assistance for the march. There are a minimum of 10 spots to fill, and really we need 12 to 14. The walk begins at 0800 EDT at the Rest Area on US 19/74 near Andrews and it ends at the RV Park in Ranger. The walk is expected to take up to 10 hours to complete. Those who volunteer for communications will either be assigned to one of the chase vehicles or a stationary post. Volunteer communicators will not be required to walk the 22 miles or any portion of it. However, you will be outside and you would need to bring food and beverages for yourself. If enough people volunteer, we will be able to provide relief operators for personals and meals.  Those who do volunteer can expect to meet at 0700 EDT at the start point for briefing and assignments.  Full information about the event, the group we are assisting, and the route will be sent to all who volunteer in a single e-mail once we have a valid list of volunteers.

If you wish to volunteer for this event, please contact me as soon as possible. You can reply to KEVIN HEYBOER at k.heyboer@verizon.net or contact me at 828-557-3363.

Server Migration Complete

Good news. The website has successfully moved to my webserver at home. I am changing some things.

  1. You do NOT have to create a user account to leave comments on posts. However, if you do wish to post articles and content you do need to email me at korn33@gmail.com or let me know during the net so you can have an account created.
  2. You cannot create your own user account. This is due to all the spam I have received over the years.
  3. Comments have to be approved. This is also due to spam.
